Seniorbuen: Drama from the opera stage

Description

Drama from the opera stage is a popular opera production where the audience gets to experience highlights from the world's three most performed operas, namely The Magic Flute, La Traviata and Carmen. The performance is packed with beautiful arias, choral numbers, humour and drama, and culminates in beloved operetta favourites that the audience can sing along to. The performance was a great success at Kilden teater og konserthus in 2025 and visits Buen kulturhus in Mandal, Arendal Kulturhus, Grimstad Kulturhus, Risørhuset and Sygna Kulturhus this autumn. Drama from the opera stage is performed by professional singers and musicians in collaboration with Kristiansund Operakor, supplemented by singing students at Universitetet i Agder. The highlights are staged with full direction and tied together in text in an informal and easy-to-follow way. The conductor is Anne Haugland Balsnes, Laurence Mériaux is responsible for the choreography, Mariam Kharatyan is the accompanist and the direction is by Nils H. Sødal. DID YOU KNOW.... As a young person, student or grandchild you get free admission when you accompany a senior. THE MAGIC FLUTE: Prince Tamino is given the task of rescuing Pamina from the mysterious Sarastro. Along the way he meets the bird-catcher Papageno, trials, love - and discovers that the world is not as black and white as it first seems. LA TRAVIATA: The courtesan Violetta falls in love with Alfredo and tries to begin a new life with him. But society's norms and family pressure force her to give up love - with deeply tragic consequences. CARMEN: The freedom-loving Carmen begins a passionate relationship with the soldier Don José. He becomes obsessed with her, but when Carmen falls in love with the bullfighter Escamillo, the story is driven towards a tragic end.
