Tasters from The Magic Flute, La Traviata and Carmen In Drama from the Opera Stage you get to experience highlights from the world's three most performed operas. The performance is packed with beautiful arias, choruses, humour and drama and culminates in well-loved operetta favourites that you are invited to sing along to. The performance was a great success at Kilden Teater in 2025 and visits several cultural centres in Agder this autumn. It is performed by professional singers and musicians in collaboration with Kristiansand Operakor, supplemented by singing students from Universitetet i Agder. The highlights are presented fully staged. The conductor is Anne Haugland Balsnes, Laurence Mériaux is responsible for the choreography, Mariam Kharatyan is the accompanist and the director is Nils H. Sødal. The Magic Flute Plot: Prince Tamino is given the task of rescuing Pamina from the mysterious Sarastro. Along the way he meets the bird catcher Papageno, trials, love - and discovers that the world is not as black and white as it first seems. Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791, the year he died. A blend of fairy tale, philosophy and Masonic symbolism. "The Queen of the Night's aria" is among the opera's most virtuosic soprano arias. La Traviata Plot: The courtesan Violetta falls in love with Alfredo and tries to begin a new life with him. But the norms of society and family pressure force her to give up love - with deeply tragic consequences. Composed by Giuseppe Verdi (1853). Based on the novel The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas fils. Contains well-known arias such as Sempre libera and the drinking song Libiamo. Carmen Plot: The freedom-loving Carmen begins a passionate relationship with the soldier Don José. He becomes obsessed with her, but when Carmen falls in love with the bullfighter Escamillo, the story is driven towards a tragic end. Composed by Georges Bizet (1875).
