Oslo Kammermusikkfestival
19. aug. - 23. aug.
Oslo
In 1989 Arve Tellefsen opened the doors to Norway's first chamber music festival. Tellefsen's vision was to show the diversity of chamber music and bring the music out to a larger audience than it had traditionally had in Norway until then. Over the years the festival has established itself as an important and popular player in Norwegian musical life, both for musicians and audiences. At the 30th anniversary in 2019 Arve Tellefsen passed the baton on to Håvard Gimse. He continues as artistic director of the festival and has Vilde Frang and Randi Stene with him on the artistic council. Gimse himself has sat on the artistic council since 1997, and has had a long collaboration with Tellefsen as a fellow player both on stage and in the work on the artistic content of the festival over the last 20 years.
«The festival is in safe hands going forward with these at the helm», said Arve Tellefsen at the opening concert of Oslo Kammermusikkfestival in Universitetets Aula, on Thursday 15 August 2019.
The music
Oslo Kammermusikkfestival presents music spanning from the Middle Ages to our own time, with performers of the highest class from both Norway and abroad. The recruitment of Norwegian chamber music is also central to the programming, and great emphasis is therefore placed on presenting young talents in addition to established stars.
The venues
Oslo Kammermusikkfestival gives you the chance to see some of Oslo's most beautiful concert venues, including places not usually accessible to the public. Cultural-historical gems such as Akershus Slottskirke, Olav Vs Hall, Universitetets Aula, Gamle Logen, Oscarshall and Slottskapellet have been used throughout the festival's 30 years. Every year there are also new, and often surprising, venues on the programme.
Royal patron
HM Queen Sonja has been the festival's patron for many years and we owe the royal couple a great debt of thanks for opening both Oscarshall and the Slottskapellet at the Royal Palace for our concerts. This gives the concerts an extra dimension, for both audience and performers.
