DIGITAL CHURCH MUSIC FESTIVAL WITH EASTER AS ITS RED THREAD
For the second year in a row, the coronavirus is throwing a spanner in the works for Kirkemusikkfestivalen. As a plaster on the wound for audiences and performers, this year we are offering a digital edition of the festival, with several Norwegian and international highlights from the original programme. We long hoped to be able to hold ordinary concerts in 2021, but the statutory restrictions (the Covid-19 regulations) still make it impossible. The restrictions include an entry ban, a quarantine requirement, limited rehearsal opportunities for choirs and ensembles for a long time, and not least audience limits that hit church spaces especially hard, as church pews are not defined as fixed seats. We do not want to put life and health at risk, and have therefore worked in parallel on a digital plan B, which we are now putting into action. With good partners such as NRK we can still offer an exciting Easter programme in 2021, recorded with fabulous sound and picture quality from Oslo domkirke and churches in England and Italy. In addition to five concerts being broadcast on NRK Klassisk, the Main Stage will show interviews and clips from the concerts, thereby creating a programme about the festival as a whole on 1st Easter Day (Easter Sunday), 04.04.21
Oslo Internasjonale Kirkemusikkfestival is held annually over 10 days in March, and since its start in 2001 has established itself as a national and international provider of high-quality artistic projects. The festival presents the generic breadth of church music. With a musical span from the Middle Ages to our own time, the festival is an important custodian of early music, but also an important communicator of contemporary expression. In addition to ordinary concerts, the audience is invited to lectures, masterclasses and open rehearsals.
