Lofoten Internasjonale Kammermusikkfest saw the light of day in 2004 as Norway's northernmost chamber music festival, and has made a name for itself internationally with its high artistic standard. The festival has featured artists such as András Schiff, Paul Lewis, Leif Ove Andsnes, Bertrand Chamayou, Nash Ensemble, Isabel Faust and Quatour Ébène. Engegårdkvartetten is the festival's "house band". In 2005 the festival was organised as a foundation with Knut Kirkesæther, Arvid Engegård and Vågan Kommune as founders. The festival is still run with Knut Kirkesæther as general manager and Arvid Engegård as artistic director. The concerts are held in churches and cultural centres across large parts of the region. In 2019 the festival celebrated its first 15 years. Her Majesty Queen Sonja performed the official opening.
