BURSDAGSFESTIVAL!
27. jan. - 3. feb.
Sandefjord
Welcome to a new wonderful cultural year where we first invite you to a
BIRTHDAY FESTIVAL!
stretching over one week from 27 January to 3 February!
Three great composers were creative Aquarians – good as gold – and we begin with WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART, who was born in Salzburg on 27 January 1756.
After a wonderful children's birthday party in the afternoon – please see further down – Henning Kraggerud, violin, and Christian Ihle Hadland, piano, wish to start the evening concert with a sweeping Sonata in B-flat major, K. 454. They also offer the beautiful Sonata in E minor, K. 304. Ann-Helen Moen has picked out some of the loveliest songs such as Abendempfindung, Das Veilchen, Der Zauberer etc. – together the three soloists finish with the aria L’amero saro costante from Il Re Pastore, K. 208. Den Grønne Sal, Park Hotel 27.01 at 18.00.
Ann-Helen Moen, soprano, is a very versatile singer – with a broad repertoire ranging from the early baroque to the great romantic composers and contemporary music – on both the concert and the opera stage. She is known for her Mozart interpretations, and especially for her Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro. Alongside her solo career she is employed as Associate Professor at Norges musikkhøgskole.
Henning Kraggerud is one of the country's great international violin soloists and has played with a number of the best international orchestras and at renowned chamber music festivals. He composes – most recently we heard his Equinox with us – is a professor at Norges musikkhøgskole and artistic director of the chamber orchestra of Arktisk Filharmoni.
Christian Ihle Hadland is also one of our great international soloists. He has toured the world as a soloist with orchestras and to the most famous festivals as a chamber musician. He won the Spellemannsprisen in 2015 and has been a BBC New Generation Artist – which led to collaboration with all of the BBC's orchestras in the United Kingdom.
Both Ihle Hadland and Kraggerud have played regularly with us – while Ann-Helen Moen is our guest for the first time.
Tickets at kr. 375,-/100,- (children/young people under 20) + fees.

FRANZ SCHUBERT was born in Vienna on 31 January 1797.
The soprano Ann-Helen Moen comes to the celebration of his birthday together with the pianist Håvard Gimse. And to make this birthday a little special, the concert will take place in two concert halls in Hjertnes – Sal 1 and Harmonie. We start in the purely acoustic main hall and move at the interval to the hall with the new digital acoustic system. It will be very exciting to compare the two acoustics – for both performers and audience – and we therefore invite you to a gathering after the concert where we ask everyone to give their input on how the acoustics are experienced. We look forward to testing the digital acoustic system in Harmonie properly – not least with two of our foremost classical performers!
Hjertnes 31.01 at 18.30.
The programme consists of two of the Impromptus for solo piano from Op. 90 – No. 2 in E-flat major and No. 3 in G-flat major – and some of Schubert's most wonderful Lieder: Du bist die Ruh, Nacht und Träume, excerpts from Winterreise, Gretchen am Spinnrade etc.
Håvard Gimse has for many years been one of Kulturelt Initiativ's regular guests. He is sought after internationally as a soloist and chamber musician – and a preferred accompanist. Gimse has given concerts at many of the world's most prestigious concert venues such as Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall, made a great number of recordings and won a number of prizes.
Tickets at kr. 375,-/100,- (children/young people under 20) + fees.

FELIX MENDELSSOHN was born in Hamburg on 3 February 1809, and with his music we close the festival in Den Grønne Sal, Park Hotel at 18.00.
The main courses in the celebration of him are his first two piano trios – No. 1 in D minor and No. 2 in C minor – followed by a selection of Lieder ohne Worte as delicious desserts. Håvard Gimse is then joined by the twin sisters Berit (Værnes) Cardas, violin, and Bjørg (Værnes) Lewis, cello – quite right: half of the Vertavo Quartet. They have an impressive track record of what they have achieved as soloists and chamber musicians – where perhaps the first prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Music Critics' Prize and a Spellemann Prize hang highest.
Tickets at kr. 375,-/100,- (children/young people under 20) + fees.

BUT – first of all we want to put the children in the place of honour, and the festival therefore starts with them on Saturday 27 January. Then Mozart would have turned 268! The gift to them is given by Papageno, Christian Ihle Hadland, three dancers and a young piano talent. We wanted to create something quite special for the very youngest, but soon found out that it actually suits quite a lot of people. So there will be
MOZART FOR THE VERY YOUNGEST.....AND MOST OF THE REST! in Den Grønne Sal at Park Hotel at 14.00.
Papageno – every child's Mozart favourite – sings and tells about Mozart as a child prodigy; Christian plays from the lovely variation movement «Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman” K. 265 – which the dancers also dance to. AND – we guarantee: you all know the melody of this one, and you will among other things be allowed to join in singing it! You will also hear Mozart's first composition, which he wrote when he was 5 years old – and Alla Turca leads us in a stately joint march out! And if it is a birthday – there should be buns and fizzy drinks.......
Tickets at kr. 175,- (incl. buns and juice/coffee/tea) + fees.
