Spring is coming
Med brask og Brahms.................and Edvard Grieg!
in an extended national-day romantic celebration the weekend after 17 May!
So also a Whitsun festival – with wonderful classical music in three concerts!
The two composers met on several occasions and admired each other mutually – both as people and as artists. The first time was in Leipzig in 1878 during Grieg's journey in Germany, and later when he gave concerts in Vienna in 1896.
The strings Elise Båtnes, violin, Henninge Landaas, viola, and the cellist Louisa Tuck – all from OsloFilharmonien – meet the pianist Håvard Gimse in two concerts on 18 and 19 May. In the first concert they offer Grieg's Sonata for Violin and Piano in F major and several wonderful chamber music works that fit perfectly into our series «Liker De Brahms?». Two songs, Op. 91 – and not least the Piano Quartet in G minor, Op. 25. Do not miss the wonderful, gypsy-inspired last movement of the quartet!

Our region has fostered many very good singers! Sakarias Tranvåg from Stokke – our Papageno at Midtåsen in recent years – is a soloist trainee at Den Norske Opera; Sofia Nesje Enger from Nøtterøy and Filip Håkestad from Jåberg complete their Master's at Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo this spring.
Between the two concerts with strings and piano, the three singers present a wonderful selection from the Norwegian national-romantic song treasury together with Ivar Anton Waagaard on piano early in the afternoon on 19 May. It will be

Grieg – Vinje, Ibsen and Garborg.
All the Vinje songs in Op. 33 – both Solveig songs – and two songs with text from Garborg's Haugtussa – plus some wonderful piano music!

The last concert in Med brask og Brahms..... begins with Mozart's beautiful Sonata for Violin and Piano in E minor, K. 304 and Anfang eines Adagio, K. 580a for cello and piano. Then we look forward to Brahms' Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 120 for viola and piano before the festival ends with his Piano Trio in B major, Op. 8 – for violin, cello and piano at 18.00 on 19 May
