Hamar
Kirsten Flagstad Festival was initiated by Hamar kommune. The municipal executive board gave Musikkens Venner i Hamar og omegn the task of realising the wish for a festival named after the town's famous daughter. Kirsten Flagstad herself emphasised her connection to her home town, and it is in Hamar that we find the Kirsten Flagstad Museum. The first festival took place in 2006. The festival is not a pure opera festival, but a festival in the spirit of Kirsten Flagstad, a vocal festival rooted in classical music and with a clear quality profile. The main focus is on the concert programme, but in addition there are art exhibitions and not least lectures, film and interviews at the Kirsten Flagstad Museum.
