Oslo Operafestival
23. sep. - 27. sep.
Oslo
We welcome you to the 20th Oslo Operafestival, organised by Opera til folket. We promise a wonderful festival and hope many will find their way to one or more of our events. You will find us in Østbanehallen, in Gamle Munchmuseet at Tøyen, at Grønland and of course at Gamle Raadhus Scene in week 39. Oslo Operafestival is a great way to experience opera for the first time, and for everyone who already likes opera it is a great way to relive the highlights, or discover something completely new.
We open the festival inside Østbanehallen on Tuesday 23 September at 17.00 in collaboration with Operahøgskolen. It has become a very pleasant tradition to present all the new first-year students at this opening concert. Olesya Tutova accompanies.
Later the same day we have chosen to focus on composers who have an anniversary in one form or another in 2025. Here there will be music by, among others, Bizet, Bellini, Johannes Strauss and others. Direction is by Einar Bjørge, the virtuoso cellist Sandra Lied Haga plays, and Renate Ekerhovd, Markus Bjørlykke and Jørgen Magnus Haslum provide song and fun. It is all tied together by the artistic director, Dorina Komani. Gjøril Songvoll is the host. The gala concert is in Gamle Munch at 19.00.
Oslo Operafestival cares about children and young people and has no fewer than three operas for these target groups at this year's festival. The children's operas are Trollmannen Colas og den magiske blomst, produced for Opera til folket for kindergartens, and The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček, which suits children at primary school level, and for young people we have made a youth version of The Csárdás Princess by Emmerich Kálmán. All the concerts are in Gamle Munch. We have placed the two children's operas in the daytime in the middle of the week, because then we can invite several hundred children from schools and kindergartens.
On Wednesday 24 September there will be an opera café in the foyer in Gamle Munch. Then you can have a little bite to eat while enjoying opera.
On Thursday 25 September we are lucky enough to have the Rullestad Teigen sisters with us together with the dancer Julie Dokken. They have made a completely newly written opera called Accomplished Women. A new cross-disciplinary work, composed by Maria Rullestad Teigen, in which she and her co-creators blend musical expression with dance and stage design.
On Friday 26 September it is, as usual, Lunsj med kultur at Gamle Raadhus Scene, but this Friday it will of course be opera.
An opera festival with any self-respect must focus on Wagner's wonderful music. We show excerpts from Das Rheingold at Lørdagsopera on 27 September with, among others, Ole Jørgen Kristiansen and five other singers. Here Stefan Ibsen Zlatanos and Simona Malerba accompany.
Oslo Operafestival very much likes to find venues and hold concerts in places not otherwise associated with opera. The Opera Pub at Grønland Boulebar is an example of this. There we have a free Opera Pub every Saturday at 19.00
We finish with a bang in Universitetets aula with Reza e i Ragazzi, the opera soloist choir consisting of some of Norway's best male soloists. They invite you to a great opera party with guests and full speed. The driving force behind the choir is the accomplished musician Reza Aghamir. With soloists such as Yngve Søberg, Thomas Ruud and Håvard Stensvold and others, this is a concert you will not want to miss.
We look forward especially to 2026. Then we have our 20th anniversary. Then we will stage, among other things, La Bohème in a youthful version in both Oslo and Drammen in collaboration with Drammens Synfoniorkester and fantastic soloists.
In the meantime we hope many will find their way to this year's festival, which is a warm-up for the 20th anniversary.
WELCOME
We would also like to remind you that we have a number of concerts at Gamle Raadhus Scene for the rest of the year.
