About Kammermusikk på Hell
Kammermusikk på Hell began as an idea in 2024, when we, the sisters Anna and Maria Kolby Sonstad, had both landed permanent jobs as musicians and at the same time wanted to create something of our own. The location at Hell and Stjørdal was chosen for several reasons, among them that large parts of the Sonstad family come from exactly there, and that we wanted to add to the classical cultural offering in the region. There is also no chamber music festival there from before, and we must have one!
The idea grew, and the theme for the first edition of the festival was chosen, clearly inspired by the connection to Hell. The Italian author Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy is a trilogy, where the books bear the titles Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. The three main concerts at Kammermusikk på Hell 2026 are inspired by each of these books, and the theme of the music is linked to the literary themes.
We, the organisers, play at all the concerts ourselves, and with us on stage we have an all-star line-up of musicians from home and abroad. The musicians are accommodated at Ersgard at Hell, a very idyllic and well-run farm where we will live, eat, rehearse and play concerts.
