Lillesand Operafestival came about on a whim in 2024, when some of the performers happened to have concerts a few days apart in the southern Norwegian town; quite independently of one another. Surely this could be put together into a festival, they thought, and set about planning.
The result was a small, intimate pilot festival in the summer of 2025. They were joined by a handful of wonderful singers and pianists, and together they created big experiences in a small format for both adults and children. Feedback from the audience - and the atmosphere among the performers - was so magical that this SHOULD be continued.
It is a real treat to be able to welcome you to Lillesand Operafestival in 2026, with even more singers and more events. All the festival singers are known to be brilliant singers with engaging stage presence and a good gift for communication. The pianists are in a class of their own, and this year we also have the storyteller Hilde Eskild with us. Especially exciting this year is that we have a WORLD PREMIERE at the romance concert, and that we will be using the amphitheatre in Meta Hansen's garden. An opera picnic is held there! Lillesand Operafestival is a small festival that feels close and unique. Lillesand is a small town, and the venues are close to one another. The town has several pleasant places to eat with delicious summer menus, a sauna on the quay, a bathing spot at Orrehola and several fine speciality shops. The festival programme makes it possible to enjoy the WHOLE of Lillesand when you come here.
