In 1989 Arve Tellefsen opened the doors to Norway's first chamber music festival. Tellefsen's vision was to show the diversity of chamber music and to bring the music out to a larger audience than it had traditionally had in Norway until then. Over the years the festival has established itself as an important and popular player in Norwegian musical life, for both musicians and audiences. At the 30th anniversary in 2019, Arve Tellefsen passed the baton on to Håvard Gimse. Gimse himself has sat on the artistic council since 1997, and has had a long collaboration with Tellefsen as a fellow performer on stage and in the work on the festival's artistic content over the past 20 years. "The festival is in safe hands going forward with these at the helm," said Arve Tellefsen at the opening concert of Oslo Kammermusikkfestival in Universitetets Aula, on Thursday 15 August 2019. Håvard Gimse stepped down after the 2022 festival and passed the baton on to Marianne Beate Kielland, who is joined by Wolfgang Plagge continuing, and Eldbjørg Hemsing as a new member of the artistic council.
