arena:klassisk
22. okt. - 24. okt.
Oslo
From 22 to 24 October, arena:klassisk, the meeting place of the classical music industry, takes place. Musicians, promoters, festivals, producers and ensembles meet for professional development, networking and the exchange of experiences.
NB: Discounted Earlybird tickets are on sale until 15 September.
The Thursday programme opens with a political debate on classical music for the whole country. We have invited cultural politicians to discuss what is happening to classical music and other more niche art forms that fill the halls less often if the market alone is allowed to decide.
Then we move from words to action in a round-table conference on who takes responsibility for the music. We take a closer look at the challenges and opportunities in programming classical music, and discuss what it takes to turn ambitions into concrete action.
Furthermore, regional cultural funds with new money for culture are presented, along with what significance they may have for local and regional cultural life.
In the afternoon Showcase 1 is on the programme, where selected soloists and ensembles present short concert programmes for promoters and booking managers. In Showcase 1 we meet the Hardanger fiddle quartet Istem, the flautist Christine Häll, the vocal duo Duo Samklang and the pianist Damiën Heemskerk.
The day ends with Kontrapunkt, arena's own version of the popular Nordic music competition. Arild Erikstad returns as host when three teams compete in classical music, with live music on stage and an audience in the hall.
The Friday programme offers a day focused on strategy, audience development, concert production and the development of ensembles.
The day starts with the panel «Tailoring your strategy for artist-led marketing campaigns», with Katy Rogers-Davies from London Symphony Orchestra. She shares experiences of how one of the world's leading orchestras works with marketing and audience development, before the conversation continues with representatives from Stavanger Symfoniorkester and Festspillene i Bergen.
We then invite you to a workshop with Guro Skullerud from Oslo-filharmonien, who shares experiences from MusikkRom and explores how we can develop concerts, concepts and communication for the audiences of the future.
In Showcase 2 we hear the vocal and piano duo Duo Apropos, the violinist Inga Våga Gaustad, the pianist Herman S. Pellbäck and the saxophone quartet CORUS.
In Ensembleforum we gather ensembles for an open conversation about challenges, needs and opportunities. What do ensembles need in order to develop and build a sustainable business, and how can we lift these questions together?
Friday evening offers a festival night with Showcase 3, yet another chance to meet good industry colleagues and experience strong musical impressions from Ensemble Forte, the guitar trio Trio Franor, the vocal group Frolic Quintet and santoor player and composer Mirsaeed Hosseiny Panah.
