FANTASIA! – It is fifteen years since Midtåsen opened to the public, and the hope back then was that the magnificent property would be developed into a unique cultural venue. Imagination and creativity were to be allowed to flourish and lead to the presentation of culture in new forms and in exciting, engaging settings. Through 423 performances, Kulturelt Initiativ has explored the possibilities, used our imagination and let ourselves be inspired to ever new ways of communicating classical music. All built on the imagination and creativity that the foremost composers and artists have given us through their works. It is with delight and humility that we wish to refine this further together with our foremost singers, musicians – and our audience.
Fifteen years of work have led, among other things, to twelve performances for children and families – all specially created for Midtåsen as a venue. Here our own imagination and creativity have been able to romp in harmony with the nature of Midtåsen. And to be honest – there are loads of lovely pictures to see up there, even though we have a particular fondness both for the view in front of the villa and for the pond in the forest. It is like experiencing Pictures at an Exhibition – which is the subtitle of this year's new attraction. Through it we also hope to stir your imagination.
By the water lilies in the pond it is easy to let your thoughts turn to the nøkk, trolls and Norwegian folk tales – but also to Monet's fantastic paintings of water lilies. This year in particular it is worth recalling that on the day after the armistice at the end of World War 1 in 1918, Monet gave some of his finest water lily paintings as a gift to the nation – as a memorial to peace. That is worth a thought in today's Europe.
Culture is the glue of society – and we can now strengthen the bonding after a long time of great challenges. Join us in creating the festival of the century at Midtåsen – be a friend of culture – and bring along someone you love for unique experiences in Arnebergstuen, in the sculpture pavilion, in the park and out in nature!
