Greeting from the artistic direction
True to tradition, the festival opens at Gullbring kulturanlegg with a fine bouquet of young and established artists, where Knut Buen himself devotes an evening together with our fine festival musicians. The concert also offers spirited slått playing on the Hardanger fiddle with Johanne Flottorp, before the evening is rounded off with Martin Ødegaard's "Myllarguten Grieg'en også videre...", the very turning point between folk music and classical music.
The festival closes this year again in Nes kyrkje, and at this concert you will experience Norwegian music – both old and new. We are humble and proud to have such a fine church space as part of the festival. By holding a festival with so much historical music, it is especially rewarding and grand to be able to perform music in a space with so much history in its walls.
We have been so fortunate to have good partners through the Midgard competition and the composition programme at Norges musikkhøgskole, and are glad to be able to continue with that this year too. We will hear 5 new works by young Norwegian composers. From the Midgard competition you will hear some of the prizewinners from last year's prestigious competition.
It is a cliché to say that you will get to experience something for every taste. But here we can say, hand on heart, that this very festival week will be one of those weeks where you experience something for every taste. The concerts contain a spirited repertoire stretching from the Baroque to today's young composers, through a wide range of genres from folk music to musical, written for an exciting range of instruments.
We believe many have felt a longing for live music over the last two years, and we look forward to sharing and celebrating this fine programme with you!
