Dear audience It is with great pleasure that we are organising Oslo Early for the sixth year in a row. From 14-17 October we plan to celebrate freedom with a capital F. We are thrilled that life is gradually returning; that people can increasingly meet and share experiences together again. Yet we feel a hint of unease and uncertainty. What reservations will attach to our hopefully regained freedom? Will, for example, the QR code become our friend or our enemy? It feels wonderful to be able to invite you again to concerts with the finest early musicians from abroad. We are particularly proud to be able to present Orchestra of the Age of Entlightenment for the first time in Norway. For the closing concert in Universitetets aula they bring with them brand-new «Restoration Music», which is also being performed in London the week before. The programme celebrates freedom and all the music that flourished after the waves of civil wars and Cromwell's tyrannical rule until the mid-1600s. Here there is sweepingly magnificent instrumental and vocal music that takes the temperature of English joy of freedom anno 1660! In addition Oslo Early receives a visit from the star gambist Paolo Pandolfo, we get a family concert with the inter-Scandinavian recorder quartet Woodpeckers, club atmosphere on Friday evening with «Barokkansk battle» and a wonderful opening concert with Barokkanernes Vokalensemble and Barokkanerne: a tribute to the patron saint of music itself in Händel's «Ode to St. Cecilia». This year's festival is held in Det Gamle Biblioteket, at Sentralen and in Universitetets aula. Welcome to Oslo Early 2021! PS: Ticket sales and the full programme will be presented by Friday 24 September.
