KIRKEMUSIKKFESTIVALEN 2022 TAKES PLACE IN TWO PARTS – MARCH AND SEPTEMBER The concerts with local performers go ahead as planned on 19-27 March. Due to the unpredictable Covid situation, Oslo Internasjonale Kirkemusikkfestival has decided to split this year's festival in two, and move the concerts with international performers to the autumn, in the period 3-11 September. The decision was made in collaboration with the international performers, to avoid last-minute cancellations, and to minimise the risk of the spread of the virus across the many events that were planned over the course of 10 days. Welcome to the 22nd edition of Kirkemusikkfestivalen. We take the hymn Stabat mater and the role of women as the common thread in this year's programme. We look at older and more recent church history through well-known works and newly written music with national and international ensembles, and draw the thread further to socially topical issues with music from both Iran and Iceland. There will also be choral music with some of the foremost choirs internationally and in Norwegian musical life. Oslo Internasjonale Kirkemusikkfestival is held annually over 10 days in March, and since its start in 2001 has established itself as a national and international provider of high-quality artistic projects. The festival presents the generic breadth of church music. With a musical span from the Middle Ages up to our own time, the festival is a significant custodian of early music, but also an important communicator of contemporary expression. In addition to ordinary concerts, the audience is invited to lectures, masterclasses and open rehearsals.
