The Oslo International Church Music Festival is proud to present its 2023 programme. The festival is once again held in two parts – 11-19 March and 2-10 September. As always, the festival offers topical themes and a broad musical programme, from audience-favourite classics to new commissioned works and, not least, world-leading choirs, orchestras and soloists from Norway and abroad. Audiences can look forward to magical concert experiences with critically acclaimed performers such as the Wiener Sängerknaben, Jordi Savall, Vox Clamantis, Tenebrae, Christian Schmitt and Amarcord. This year's festival theme, “East of Western Church Music”, sheds light on church music from new angles and takes us on a journey from Estonian hymns to Persian vocal art, Czech piano pieces, Finnish contemporary music and, not least, a world premiere with texts from the Koran. The Oslo International Church Music Festival is held every year over 10 days in March, and since its start in 2001 it has established itself as a national and international provider of high-quality artistic projects. The festival presents the full breadth of genres in church music. With a musical span from the Middle Ages to our own time, the festival is an important custodian of early music, but also a significant presenter of contemporary expression. In addition to regular concerts, audiences are invited to talks, masterclasses and open rehearsals.
