Troldsalen Troldsalen lies right next to Grieg's villa, has room for 200 listeners and was built specially for chamber music. In Troldsalen you can listen to Grieg's music while enjoying the same view that inspired the composer in his work. Through the large rear window on the stage you can also see the composer's hut, where many of Grieg's works were composed. The hall was built in 1985 and was designed by the architects Peter Helland-Hansen and Sverre Lied. In the spring of 2012 Troldsalen was refurbished and now presents new qualities in terms of sound, light and view. Externally, the hall is adapted to the terrain in a way that makes it almost invisible as you approach the Villa over the bridge. At the entrance to Troldsalen we find Ingebrigt Vik's statue of Edvard Grieg. This is a copy of the statue that stands in the centre of Bergen (erected in 1917), and it is on a scale of 1:1. That is to say, the statue is the same height as Grieg himself, namely 152 cm. Photo: Dag Fosse
