Hear Barbara Hannigan take on Ligeti's great macabre once more, a piece she has made a modern classic. Before that, Bartók's erotic tale, Vivier's journey through space and a Haydn symphony full of spark and flair. All together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
Barbara Hannigan has become inseparable from Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre, the wildly theatrical scene from the opera Le Grand Macabre, reshaped for the concert stage. Now, more than a decade after the first production in Gothenburg, Hannigan returns to this signature role.
To begin, we travel to an enchanted lake to romantic music by Liadov, before Claude Vivier portrays mysteries at the outer edge of the universe. Béla Bartók's tale The Miraculous Mandarin explores the power of human passion. After the interval we hear one of Haydn's so-called London symphonies, No. 102.
Programme:
Liadov: The Enchanted Lake
Bartók: The Miraculous Mandarin
