Stenhammar x 2

Description

We celebrate our Swedish symphonist Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871–1927) with a concert devoted to Stenhammar's "twos"; two landmark works in the Swedish orchestral repertoire, in which Stenhammar shows his full power as a romantic, visionary and innovator. Stenhammar's Piano Concerto No. 2 is a masterpiece, full of drama and with a natural sense of form. The piano becomes an equal partner to the orchestra, and the finale culminates in triumph. The concerto is performed by the pianist Martin Sturfält. With his Symphony No. 2, Stenhammar reaches his artistic peak. Here Nordic freshness is combined with classical form and a rare feeling for sonority and balance. Norrköpings Symfoniorkester is led by the conductor Tobias Ringborg. NB new concert date: the concert has moved from 22 April 2027 to 12 November 2026, with new soloist Martin Sturfält replacing Roland Pöntinen. Tickets bought earlier remain valid. After the regular programme an extra concert is given, when Martin Sturfält and Tobias Ringborg perform Stenhammar's Violin Sonata in A minor (22 min). Between the concerts there is an interval of about 10 minutes. Programme: Wilhelm Stenhammar: Piano Concerto No. 2 Wilhelm Stenhammar: Symphony No. 2 Wilhelm Stenhammar: Violin Sonata in A minor
