How far is a power-intoxicated person prepared to stretch moral boundaries to achieve the goal of his ambitions? Topical as ever! It is one of the central questions in William Shakespeare's Macbeth and in Giuseppe Verdi's opera. The story of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is a story of power and ambition, but also of what happens when moral boundaries are shifted step by step. Opera på Skäret lies by the lake Ljusnaren, and the lake and the landscape are a large part of the experience for those who come here. We therefore wanted to let the place become part of Macbeth's visual world long before the audience steps into the opera house. The crown, which symbolises the power Macbeth strives for, placed in the water, ties the story to Skäret. The dark, blood-coloured water closest to the crown, which brings to mind the price that must be paid to reach power, at the same time turns into the blue tones of the lake.
