Eric Ericsons Kammarkör was founded in 1945 by the then 27-year-old Eric Ericson, and has since occupied a central place in Swedish and international musical life. His and the choir's great interest in constantly finding new music and new fields of work means that the ensemble's repertoire is still very broad today: from early music to the very latest and newly composed. For generations of Swedish and international composers, the choir has been an ideal ensemble with its typical “Nordic” sound and highly developed virtuosity. To look after the legacy of Eric Ericson means preserving and developing the unique sound, constantly deepening the chamber-music approach and seeking new repertoire. Since Eric Ericson's death in 2013, Fredrik Malmberg has been engaged as chief conductor, alongside Swedish and international guest conductors. In the ranks of EEKK are Sweden's finest ensemble singers, who have chosen, in addition to their own solo singing careers and other qualified musical work, to take part in this vital ensemble work. On the world stage Eric Ericsons Kammarkör belongs to the very top tier of professional ensembles, and has been awarded many honours over the years. EEKK makes several tours abroad every year, but also works educationally with amateur choirs around Sweden. Over the years the choir has made numerous recordings and is found in the catalogues of many record labels. Highlights of its international work include collaborations with Radiokören and the Berlin Philharmonic with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, James Levine and Riccardo Muti, as well as the many recordings and concerts with Nicolas Harnoncourt and Concentus Musicus Wien. Since 2003 Eric Ericsons Kammarkör has had a close collaboration with Kungliga Filharmonikerna and Stockholms konserthus, and within the framework of the state cultural budget the choir has, through guaranteed annual support, a certain basic security in its freelance existence. Eric Ericsons Kammarkör is part of TENSO – the European network for professional chamber choirs.
