ABOUT THE WORKS On Perspective (2024) Is an audiovisual installation with a rotating video projection, designed specifically for the unique globe-shaped architecture of platform BUNKER. The installation is a contemporary interpretation of a panorama painting: the 19th-century proto-cinematic precursor to modern day entertainment technologies such as virtual reality, IMAX, and immersive installations. All of those entertainment systems rely on semi-naturalistic 360-degree reproductions of the physical world, and employ principles from perspective drawing. Perspective drawing originated in the Renaissance with a desire to represent the world as accurately as possible. Today, it is a fundamental premise for how we depict the world around us. On Perspective investigates the relationship between our perception of the world and our experience of it. For over a decade, Magnus Pind has created video works as an ongoing visual analysis of the technological, societal, and personal systems that shape our lives. Pind's video design for theater has been shown on some of Europe's largest stages, including the Vienna State Opera (2014), the Belgian national opera La Monnaie (2015) and the Royal Danish Theatre (2016, 2020, 2024). His installations and performances have been shown at Kunsthal Aarhus (2023), Click Festival (2020), Kunstforeningen Gl. Strand (2023), and Transmediale (2017) amongst others. Attempts To Swallow The Moon (2024) An old folklore says that lunar eclipses are caused by a frog swallowing the moon. In many cultures, the frog appears as a symbolic creature, either as an ominous sign or a bringer of good luck. It plays a central role in Old Testament plagues, witches' black magic, and alchemical processes. The frog’s life cycle is a process of transformation, allowing it to develop from an egg, to a tadpole, to a creature that can live both in water and on land. Its transformative qualities are at the heart of many folktales, where the message of inner beauty is realized when the frog turns into a human being. Through five movements and stages, the piece revolves around the potentials of attempts and transformation. Attempts To Swallow The Moon is written for accordion, recitation, pedal steel guitar, piano, electronics, and quadraphonic loudspeaker setup. Attempts To Swallow The Moon depicts yearning leaps toward the moon – a striving for the impossible, where the attempt to transcend oneself and one's body, both as an individual and as a civilization, is marked by equal parts doubt and insecurity, courage and ambition, in both frantic ascents and descending falls. Alexander Tillegreen is a composer and artist who operates visually, sonically and spatially. He works in a plurality of formats, including multi-channel sound installations and performances, interactive listening sessions and concerts, as well as exhibitions, graphics, commissions and publications.
