NEKO3 Festival 2026: GENESIS
NEKO3
Beskrivelse
PROGRAM Jeppe Just Christensen: Neko (2009) - Kristoffer Hyldig x NEKO3 Sophie Meyer: Plantae (2026 - WP) - Kristoffer Hyldig x NEKO3 Connor McLean: Triptych (2026 - WP) - Jonathan Swensen x NEKO3 The festival’s opening concert retraces the genesis of NEKO3, returning to the ensemble’s point of departure in contemporary chamber music. The concert features two virtuosic instrumentalists from the Copenhagen music scene - Jonathan Swensen (cello) and Kristoffer Hyldig (piano) - focusing in two new commissions by Sophie Søs Meyer and Connor McLean. The intention is to return to “point zero,” revisiting NEKO3’s origins in 2017 as a forward-thinking new music ensemble grounded in acoustic performance, of which a prime example is the concert opener "Neko" by Jeppe Just Christensen, which is the first ever piece of music performed by the ensemble. By foregrounding classical instruments and traditional ensemble formats, the program highlights the musical identity and technical strength of NEKO3 as an experienced contemporary music ensemble. ABOUT NEKO3 FESTIVAL The first edition of the NEKO3 Festival, organized on 5.-6.11.2026, is simultaneously a pre-celebration to the 10th anniversary year of the renowned experimental music ensemble, and the introduction of a new chapter. The festival program intertwines selected highlights from the ensemble’s past with ambitious new collaborations, forming a carefully curated journey that reflects what has shaped NEKO3 and what will define its future. The festival brings together some of the most inspiring collaborators the ensemble has encountered - performers and composers alike - whose ideas and practice have been central to NEKO3’s evolution and who help amplify the ensemble’s mission to expand the possibilities of contemporary performance. Join us for four exciting concerts of contemporary and experimental music, performance art, electronic music, DIY instruments and more! *The festival features two concerts on each of the two nights, with a single ticket granting access to both of the specific evening's concerts, and the festival pass access to all four concerts.
