Description

In connection with Nasjonalmuseet's exhibition Malerinne, Barokkanerne perform music by the pioneering composers Maddalena Casulana, Francesca Caccini and Barbara Strozzi from the 1500s and 1600s. Casulana was a lute player and singer, and became the first woman to have a book of her own music published when her first collection of madrigals went to print. Her beautiful polyphonic madrigals about love and separation meet the later baroque style of Caccini and the dramatic and expressive music of Strozzi. Barokkanerne take the audience on a musical journey where instrumental improvisations are interwoven with madrigals and arias, and where Italian poetry, strong contrasts and emotions are at the centre.
