SØLV
The early music ensemble SØLV made its debut with its first concert tour in March 2024. With two viola d'amores, viol and various lute instruments, they perform a broad repertoire from the late Renaissance right up to our own time, with works commissioned for the ensemble.
The very special, beautiful blend of sound that these instruments create gave the inspiration for the ensemble's name, and the four musicians, Ingrid Økland (viola d'amore/violin), Mari Giske (viola d'amore/viola), Gunnar Hauge (viol/cello) and Thomas Boysen (lute), are all leading Norwegian early music specialists.
Even worldwide, two viola d'amores and basso continuo make up a very unique combination, and the motivation for starting the ensemble was precisely to bring this beautiful instrument, and the forgotten repertoire it represents, into the light, while we explore the special sonorities of the instrument, alone and in harmony with other instruments.
