The Kaleidoscope Band

The Kaleidoscope Band

Go to website
The Kaleidoscope Band is a Norwegian-British early music ensemble that plays a number of different instruments. Ingeborg Christophersen, (recorders, czakan, harpsichord and organ), Catherine Martin (Baroque violin, Baroque viola and viola d'amore), Mari Giske (Baroque viola, classical viola and viola d'amore) and Alison McGillivray, (Baroque cello, lyra viol and viol) invite various lutenists to join them in a repertoire that stretches from the Renaissance to commissioned works of today. With so many familiar and unfamiliar instruments available, the soundscape becomes very varied. As in a kaleidoscope, new patterns are constantly formed, and a rich repertoire is made possible for relatively few musicians in a concept that is unique for a Norwegian as well as an international audience. The ensemble brings forgotten treasures to light, presented in combination with better-known works by composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi, Haydn and Mendelssohn, all with a twinkle in the eye and entertaining anecdotes about the music.
