Hemsingfestivalen
22. feb. - 26. feb.
Aurdal
It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you to a new Hemsingfestival and its 10th anniversary, 22-26 February 2023. The sisters Ragnhild and Eldbjørg Hemsing have invited big international stars from all over the world to their little mountain village, Aurdal, with around 700 inhabitants.
The festival programme for 2023 contains 17 different concert experiences over five days, with more than 30 musicians at the highest international level. You will hear music performed by wonderful musicians at the highest international level such as Goldmund Quartet, Anna Fedorova, Martin Stadtfeld and Adrian la Marca, in close interplay. There will be a pleasant reunion with several of the artists who have been at the festival before, such as TrondheimSolistene, Gjermund Larsen and Andreas Brantelid, and new acquaintances with exciting musicians such as Marja Mortensson, Terje Isungset and Thibaut Garcia. All the artists at the festival will perform in several of the concerts during the five festival days.
New this year is a new concert concept with ice concerts outside Frikar-Smia on Thursday and Friday with the internationally renowned pioneer of ice music, Terje Isungset. He created the musical concept as an extension of his interest in making sound from natural materials. By seeking out different types of ice and playing them both acoustically and with electronics, Terje has successfully refined the techniques required to let the ice “sing”, which the audience will get to experience in a unique concert concept with ice concerts at Frikar-Smia. Terje also plays ice instruments indoors together with several of the musicians at the festival.
On Saturday evening this year there will be a concert in Frikar-Smia in Aurdal, namely a “Dream Concert” with the festival's artists, where the audience can send in requests for pieces of music in advance. There will also be an open course for everyone in the traditional dances springar and halling, led by Hallgrim Hansegård from FRIKAR.
In addition to the evening concerts in Aurdal kirke and Frikar-Smia, visitors can also enjoy Smak med tonar at Nythun, Musikkaperitiff at Frydenlund skysstasjon, the concert lunch Rakfisk Forte Fortissimo at Noraker Gård and the matinée concert Musikksporet in Aurdal fjellkirke. There will also be a Fairy-Tale Day for the whole family again this year. On Aurdalsåsen on Saturday you can experience dog sledding, or make use of the fine ski trails in the area on guided ski tours.
We also look forward to you experiencing the young talents at the festival in 2023 as part of the Hemsingfestival's own talent programme, Hemsing Akademi. It is the only and first programme of its kind that includes talents in both classical music and folk music. The programme is a national offer where everyone can sign up through an open audition round. You will hear several of the talents perform at the festival in various combinations.
The Hemsingfestival is a unique opportunity to experience classical music combined with outdoor life in beautiful surroundings and with a view of the snow-covered Valdres mountains.
We wish you wonderful experiences and magical moments. Welcome to rich and rewarding festival days!
