Hemsingfestivalen
24. feb. - 27. feb.
Aurdal
Hemsingfestivalen is held annually in Aurdal, a small mountain village in Valdres with 700 inhabitants and proud cultural traditions. Here Edvard Grieg and Knut Hamsun drew inspiration from the beautiful nature, and Frydenlund Skysstasjon became an important meeting place for artists from all over Norway.
The musician sisters Ragnhild and Eldbjørg Hemsing grew up in the village, and were introduced early to both classical music and folk music. Today they are both internationally sought-after artists with the whole world as their workplace. The sisters take great joy in conveying music's magical power and depth to audiences, which inspired them to establish their own international chamber music festival in their home village. The wish is to pass on their own expertise to the community they grew up in, and thereby show how music can shape a society and create identity and belonging.
