Tabita Berglund becomes BFO's new chief conductor!

This will be the first Norwegian chief conductor in Bergen since 1985, as she takes over the podium from Edward Gardner.
She takes up the role from August 2027 and has signed a contract for four years.
I am happy, proud and humbled to become the new chief conductor of Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester. It is a great honour, and that I am becoming chief conductor because the orchestra's musicians want me is an extra delight. After conducting a great deal abroad in recent years, it feels like coming home.
- Tabita Berglund
Berglund has in a short time established herself as an internationally acclaimed and sought-after conductor, and is principal guest conductor of two highly regarded orchestras, Detroit Symphony Orchestra (2024-2028) in the USA and Dresdner Philharmonie (from season 25/26) in Germany. In both places Tabita was offered the position after conducting one concert, and in both places with Sibelius on the programme! Tabita Berglund becomes Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester's first Norwegian chief conductor since Karsten Andersen, who stepped down in 1985.
The choice of Tabita Berglund marks a new and important chapter in the history of Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester. In just a few years she has established herself as a unique Norwegian conductor profile, with a career that includes international top orchestras in Europe and the USA. Berglund combines precision, energy and integrity on the podium with a strategic flair for artistic profile and programming. The development we have seen in her international positions, opportunities and authority points clearly towards a conducting career at the very top international level. We choose to seize this opportunity now,r quote text...
