Where do you start with classical music?

🎵 KLASSIKERGUIDEN #1: Your doorway to classical music
Would you like to explore classical music but don't know where to begin? You are not alone! Let's start with the most important thing of all: There is no "right" way to listen.
This week's doorway: Grieg's Morning Mood
Many Norwegians know this one without realising it. It starts gently, like a sunrise, before gradually building into something grand. Perfect for the first cup of coffee!
Three tips for the beginner:
  1. Start with short pieces (under 10 minutes)
  2. Feel free to listen several times - new details appear
  3. Let the music be background at first - that's perfectly OK!
Did you know...
Grieg wrote Morning Mood as incidental music for Peer Gynt? The piece was meant to depict the sunrise over the Sahara desert - quite far from the Norwegian national-romantic landscape we often associate the music with.
For those of you who want to explore more:
If you liked Morning Mood, try these:
Satie's "Gymnopédie No. 1" - Calm and meditative
Debussy's "Clair de Lune" - Like moonlight in notes
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9, "From the New World"
🎧 Listen to all of them in this playlist!
Current concerts for new listeners:
🎭 - 4 Dec, Oslo-filharmonien: Kort & Klassisk: "From the New World"
🎭 - 9 Dec, Oslo Strykekvartett: morning concert
