🎵 KLASSIKERGUIDEN #4: New arenas for classical music
Forget the idea that classical music belongs only in venerable concert halls with strict rules. Today the music turns up in the most unexpected places!
Informal and relaxed
Operapub at Grønland Boulebar, Oslo Quartet Sessions at the venue Trekanten, or how about a classical concert and beer tasting at the brewery Små Vesen during the Hemsing festival? These are just a few examples of how classical music is finding new, exciting arenas. Perhaps this is your way into the music?
In the middle of town
Pop-up concerts in parks, at metro stations and in shopping centres have also become increasingly popular. Suddenly a string quartet is standing there playing in the middle of the lunch rush! You may have seen viral videos of flash mob performances, such as when Copenhagen Phil surprised train commuters with Ravel's Bolero? Check out the video here! Did you know that...
Some of the most exciting classical concerts take place in disused factories, bunkers and other unusual venues? The acoustics can be surprisingly good, and the experience becomes completely unique.
Door-opener of the month: the Interpuls festival
In February Kulturkirken Jakob is transformed into a very special arena for classical music. Here newer classical music, light art and DJ sets meet. You can even experience a yoga concert or a morning rave! This is classical music on completely new terms. You can read about the festival here.
Do you not feel at home at the Opera or the concert hall? Do not worry! There are so many other ways to experience classical music. Perhaps your first classical concert will be at your favourite pub, or on a yoga mat in a church?
