The Polish conductor Jakub Przybycień has been appointed the new chief conductor of Arktisk Filharmoni. He has a three-year agreement with the option of an extension, and conducts his first concert as chief conductor when the season opens in autumn 2027.
Przybycień has won several prizes and is in demand on the international classical music scene. Among other things he has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, and today he is assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- Jakub is very ambitious, exploratory and engaged. He is curious about what lies outside the classical traditions, and that suits Arktisk Filharmoni and our ambitions very well, says director Trud Berg.
The new chief conductor will contribute to the orchestra's long-term artistic development. His main responsibility is the large symphony orchestra, but he will also conduct the chamber orchestra in Tromsø and the sinfonietta in Bodø separately.
Przybycień has guested with the orchestra several times before.
- The musicians are open, curious and willing to try new paths. They respond to my ideas and add their own, and that means we can dive into the music and find new exciting things together, he says.
- The geographical location itself is a great inspiration for me. I am looking forward to getting to know the region better and what it has to say about the orchestra's voice and sound.
