Three artistic directors for the 2026 festival programme

Valdres sommersymfoni is proud to present our new artistic director, Ann-Helen Moen. Together with Guro Kleven Hagen and Alf Richard Kraggerud - who have previously been responsible for the festival's musical content - she will share responsibility for the programme in 2026.
An experienced soprano with an international career
Moen has a broad international career as a lyric soprano, with appearances on concert stages and in opera houses in Europe, the USA and Japan. She is also a sought-after teacher and associate professor at Norges musikkhøgskole. The festival is a familiar place for her, where she has previously taken part both as an artist and as a teacher.
- It is a great pleasure to be allowed to help create small and large musical moments in Valdres - a place I have grown very fond of through taking part as both artist and teacher at Valdres sommersymfoni, says Moen. In collaboration with a fantastic team, it is inspiring to see a new festival come into being. I hope to be able to build on the good work the festival has done so far, and at the same time be a storyteller who listens to the stories I encounter in Valdres.
As a teacher, Moen is concerned with the meeting between established and young musicians, and how this can shape the festival's programme in 2026.
- It is in the meeting between generations that the magic happens. With the Papillon programme we have great opportunities in Valdres to forge new bonds across familiar settings, right from the first rehearsal until we stand together on stage. I hope the enthusiasm that arises when we have rehearsed towards a shared expression will spread to the audience, she says.
Moen stresses that the choice of artists and works for the festival is not left to chance.
- For me it is important to see the whole musician. Everyone who is invited has something very special on their mind that suits both the concert venues and the festival's profile. I am keen to create a programme in dialogue with the artists - a mixture of the familiar and the unfamiliar - where the musicians themselves are heard. That is, after all, why we meet as we do: to listen, and perhaps hear something new from the person behind the instrument, she says.
Welcome in a new role
Mona Kleven, director of Valdres sommersymfoni, welcomes Ann-Helen in her new role:
- On behalf of Valdres sommersymfoni I would like to give Ann-Helen a warm welcome in her new role. She has already been a valuable part of the festival as both performer and teacher, and now we look forward to experiencing her perspectives in the artistic leadership as well. Together with Guro Kleven Hagen and Alf Richard Kraggerud she will help shape a festival programme that both safeguards the traditions and at the same time brings new impulses, says festival director Mona Kleven.
