Music from Vienna - with Harding & Piemontesi

Description
Former Chief Conductor Daniel Harding makes a long-awaited return visit to Stockholm. With him he brings the Swiss world-class pianist Francesco Piemontesi. The mission? To delve deep into the Viennese musical melting pot. If historic Paris is the lost eldorado of art and literature, Vienna is that of music. The exploration of Vienna as a city of music, both as an idea and as the actual cradle of parts of the Western musical canon, underlies this concert, which focuses in particular on the cherished Viennese waltz. It is in the crowded ballrooms of the Vienna of the 1800s that our musical journey begins. The Waltz King himself, Johann Strauss the Younger, sets the mood with three consecutive waltzes. The concert opens with the overture to Die Fledermaus, the composer's famous operetta from 1874. Thursday talk: before the concert on 12 November, the radio personality Edith Söderström talks with Erik Mattsson, deputy museum director at Dansmuseet, and the dance virtuoso Virpi Pahkinen about the Viennese waltz and its various social and theatrical aspects, but also about the waltz as a cultural idea and a surface for projection. The talk takes place on the stage at 18.00-approx. 18.30 and is included in the concert ticket. Friday's concert is broadcast live on Sveriges Radio P2 and with video on Berwaldhallen Play. Programme: Johann Strauss II: Overture to Die Fledermaus Johann Strauss II: Csárdás from Ritter Pásmán Johann Strauss II: Künstlerleben, Op. 316 Richard Strauss: Dance of the Seven Veils from Salome Arnold Schoenberg: Piano Concerto, Op. 42 Maurice Ravel: La Valse - Poème Chorégraphique
Programme:Johann Strauss d.y. · Richard Strauss · Arnold Schönberg · Maurice Ravel
