Bruch with Ava Bahari

Dirigent: Elena Schwarz

Ava Bahari, violin

Description

The human struggle runs like a thread through this evening, sometimes edged with deep tragedy and resistance, sometimes life-affirming and jubilantly euphoric. The concert opens with the composer Adam Maor's L'abri d'Al-'Amiriyya, a work in three episodes, with different layers and filters that create a complex weave. We then hear Max Bruch's Violin Concerto, one of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire. At this concert we get to experience the Swedish, internationally acclaimed star violinist Ava Bahari, who is guest soloist with Norrköpings Symfoniorkester for the first time. Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 in G minor, "The Year 1905" (composed 1957), is one of his most dramatic and politically charged works. On the surface the symphony depicts "Bloody Sunday" in St Petersburg in 1905, when the Tsar's soldiers opened fire on peaceful demonstrators. Introduction with the violinist Richard Michelin 30 minutes before the start of the concert. Programme: Adam Maor: L'abri d'Al-'Amiriyya Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 11 "The Year 1905"
