Svenska Kammarorkestern & Barbara Hannigan

Description
A concert where strong personalities, well-chosen works and a clear narrative are woven together into a seamless experience. Polar Music Prize laureate Barbara Hannigan has been given a completely free hand to create a programme for Svenska Kammarorkestern – and has chosen to do so together with the pianist Bertrand Chamayou, a musician she gladly collaborates with. The result is a well-thought-out and contrasting concert where drama, stillness and a spirit of discovery meet. The evening opens with Chaos from Haydn's The Creation – music that moves from the formless to the ordered. Then follow works that reflect Hannigan's curiosity and eye for the unexpected: music by Henry Cowell, and a lesser-known but fascinating piece by Franz Liszt. The concert ends with Mendelssohn, in a work inspired by two poems by Goethe. Here the sea is depicted lying completely still at first, so that the ship cannot make headway – until the wind finally takes hold and carries it to shore. A musical story about waiting, movement and release. Barbara Hannigan & Bertrand Chamayou Barbara Hannigan is known for her strong presence and her ability to create complete experiences where every part feels meaningful. With her on the conductor's podium the concert becomes more than a programme – it becomes an evening where intensity and precision meet spontaneity and joy. The pianist Bertrand Chamayou contributes both virtuosity and sensitive musical judgement. Among other things he performs Liszt's technically demanding Malediction, a work marked by dark sonorities and distinctive scales. Programme: Haydn: Chaos from The Creation Cowell: Irish suite for piano and strings Haydn: Symphony No. 64 in A major Liszt: Malediction Mendelssohn: Meerersstille und Glückliche fahrt Op. 21
