Throughout this afternoon, the Rot Society collective presents edible and inedible sculptures in varying states of decay, alongside performative and auditory interventions by Copenhagen's Wolfskin Ensemble and Norwegian musicians Mathilda Rolfsson and Nicolas Leirtrø. Together they explore the puzzle of collective mourning – and the generative possibilities inherent in decomposition. Sugary, mineral, fibrous, and liquid materials take part in a meaning-making, shared process with the collective and the audience. We share food, listen to musical offerings, and simply talk with one another – taking a moment to digest both what we consume and our lived experiences. After the shared meal and the music are over, the room stays open, and the work keeps going. Rot Society’s sculptures, some edible and some not, are left to change. Sugar crystallises and melts, fibres soften, liquids evaporate or ferment, and minerals take things apart. The graphic scores created by Dominican artist manuel arturo abreu remain on the walls as paintings. What the audience sees on any given day is one stage in an ongoing process, not a finished object. At the core of Rot Society are four artists — Ayesha Jordan, Javon Bennett, manuel arturo abreu, and John Andrew Wilhite — united by a shared premise: that rot, digestion, and nourishment are not distinct states but fluid transitions.The smell of a Caribbean-Nordic meal, shaped by fermentation, slow-cooking, and melted caramelized abundance, spreads throughout the room where music, sculpture, and organic matter merge and blur into one another. What emerges is less a performance offered to an audience than a temporary community, formed through shared ingestion: Bodies, sugars, microbes, and sounds intertwine – and disperse again. Due to very limited capacity, it is necessary to buy a separate ticket for Rot Society: Alimentary School. The performance will include a meal. The ticket costs 50 kr.
