Come and experience world-class chamber musicians when the Danish String Quartet visits Melbu in July!

The Danish String Quartet gives approximately 100 concerts a year at leading international festivals and concert stages, e.g. Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonic and Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Now they can be experienced in Arbeideren på Melbu! The quartet plays at the Chamber Concert on Saturday 6 July.
The Danish String Quartet will also be instructors at Sommerstryk, a string course for children and young people aged 8 - 15 years. Young string players in the region thus get a unique opportunity to receive instruction from world-class musicians, and have the pleasure of playing with them at the Chamber Concert.
Since its debut in 2002, the Danish String Quartet has established itself as one of the world's leading classical music ensembles. The quartet is characterized by technical perfection, joy in playing and an innovative approach to music.
They have won a number of international awards and competitions. In 2005 they won the Trondheim Chamber Music Competition and in 2009 they won the London International String Quartet Competition. They have twice been artist in residence at Danmarks Radio (2006 and 2018). In addition, they have been artist in residence at Lincoln Center in New York City 2013-2016.
The Danish string quartet is known both for brilliant performances of classical music and interpretations of Scandinavian folk music. When the quartet released two CDs focusing on Nordic folk music, Wood Works in 2013 and Last Leaf in 2016, both recordings became sensations in the international music world. The subsequent recording project, Prism 1, was further nominated for a Grammy in 2019.
The Danish string quartet consists of Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen (violin), Frederik Øland (violin), Asbjørn Nørgaard (viola) and Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin (cello).
