What does it sound like when organ, piano, saxophone and cello meet across genres and musical traditions? You can find out at Værløse Kirke on 25 October, where three strong musical personalities - Nikolaj Hess, Christian Hougaard and Elen Lura Haakensen - invite you to a concert that moves freely between classical music, jazz, crossover and entirely new sonic landscapes. The music ranges from classical music to works by Nikolaj Hess, Christian Hougaard and Egberto Gismonti, whose Brazilian-inspired music is yet another colourful stop along the way. The three musicians meet in different constellations and also as a full ensemble, where their instruments swap roles, blend and challenge one another. The performers Nikolaj Hess - piano The award-winning pianist and composer Nikolaj Hess moves effortlessly between jazz, classical music, Nordic tones and global music traditions. He is known for his personal and inquisitive piano playing and, over a long international career, has collaborated with a wide range of distinctive musicians and artists. Hess has released a long series of critically acclaimed albums, composed music for, among others, Lars von Trier's Melancholia and performed at some of the world's leading jazz venues and art institutions. Christian Hougaard - saxophone Christian Hougaard is a classically trained saxophonist, composer and musical entrepreneur with a strong foundation in both classical music and the rhythmic universe of jazz. He has an international career as a soloist and chamber musician and has been a member of Danish Saxophone Quartet for more than 25 years. As a composer and musician he works broadly across genres - from contemporary music and theatre to crossover projects. Elen Lura Haakensen - cello Elen Lura Haakensen is a Norwegian cellist and a member of Det Kongelige Kapel, where she has been employed since 2005. She trained at the conservatoires in Oslo and Stockholm and has made her mark over the years as both an orchestral musician and a chamber musician. She also plays in several chamber music settings and brings a strong classical tradition and a lively musical presence to the concert's many different encounters.
