Description
Art and conversation merge at the Royal Danish Ballet when ballet director Amy Watson invites audiences to dance and debate in a brand-new format at Skuespilhuset. We need to talk about it. These are times full of challenges that require us to listen - both to those who think as we do and to those we disagree with. Dialog is the Royal Danish Ballet's take on a forum in which the art of ballet serves as a lever for discussion of the big, difficult and often divisive issues of our time. First you witness a performance with food for thought, and then the floor is open, so that you, your fellow guests and invited guests with strong views can debate what you have seen. Our first Dialog consists of three separate ballets dealing with three widely different subjects. Emma Portner currently has an enormous influence in the dance world through her great commitment to the debate about women's role in dance. Her islands is a duet for two women, in which she deconstructs the typical gender roles of ballet, which for centuries have given male choreographers the right and the power to define woman. In Portner's own words, she now wants to "take ballet history and respectfully hit it with a hammer". Next, choreographer Eukene Sagues takes the stage with a brand-new work, Homo Sapiens Sapiens. She made her mark in 2024 with her powerful interpretation of Lorca's Blood Wedding, and now she explores human evolution and asks the questions: Where do we come from? What can our bodies do? And how has our brain developed? Wild, stringent and obsessive. A sensual and physical performance that constantly challenges the emotions. That is how Dorotea Saykaly herself describes the first part (chapitre un) of her trilogy Mon Cœur, which rounds off the ballet part of Dialog. Dorotea is known for her powerful, physical expression and her sculptural exploration of the body, and has established herself as a distinctive choreographic voice on the modern dance scene. With Mon Cœur (chapitre un) she draws inspiration from Bournonville and opens up to what lies deep inside her ballet heart - an invitation to let our wild side loose. After that, the floor is open. With respect, of course, for the artists up on stage and for the views expressed in the debate. Recommended from age 10
