Description
Pop meets opera and has a love child wearing ballet shoes. Join a journey through three art forms - and the turning points of life - at Operaens Store Scene Under dybet is an unusual and sensuous theatre experience that blew the audience away at its premiere in 2024. The production was created in close collaboration between the worlds of ballet, drama and music and is a tribute to the light and dark forces of existence, told through three acts - birth, sexuality and death. In church we have a hymn book to help us through the great events of life, but in Under dybet the composer Jeanett Albeck has made her own pop bible, consisting of well-known hits and newly composed songs, performed live on stage by, among others, five older opera singers and five trombonists. In front of them, five travellers set out into the world to find a meaningful role in life. Through dance and song they wrestle with the great turning points of life, the disappointments, the urges, the grief and the realisation that growing up also means letting the perfect world die. Under the direction of theatre director Anja Behrens and set designer Christian Albrechtsen, the choreographers Sebastian Kloborg and Oliver Marcus Starpov have set steps to music that speaks to both the nostalgic and the dreamer. The result is neither ballet, drama nor a classical concert but a fusion that opens the hatch to the deepest emotions wide open. Recommended from age 12
