Description
Kammeroperaen presents another opera this spring by the great Italian master Puccini: in our view his very best, Tosca. The opera is directed by Katrine Wiedemann. The plot of Puccini's opera Tosca from 1900 is a political game set in Rome in the year 1800, during Napoleon's campaign against Italy, and plays out between the celebrated singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the painter and revolutionary Mario Cavaradossi, and the corrupt chief of police Scarpia, who lusts after her. The season's theme is "In debt to the truth", and in Tosca the lie has fatal consequences. The opera is packed with every kind of lie, from concealment, manipulation and broken promises to an entire system that sustains itself on lies. The opera is staged by theatre director Katrine Wiedemann, who is also the set designer, in close collaboration with lighting designer Viktor Holm Lauridsen. She lets the drama unfold with the whole auditorium as the playing space, so that we come right up close to the deep psychological game between the characters. The opera is arranged for a chamber ensemble of violin, cello, clarinet and piano by kapellmeister Leif Greibe, who is also in charge of the musical direction. Skt. Olai Vokalensemble and musicians from Det Kgl. Kapel also take part. The opera is sung in Italian. Duration approx. 2 hours and 40 minutes. Programme: Giacomo Puccini / Tosca
