Kongelig sommerballet 2025 (turné)
Det Kongelige Teater invites you to free ballet under the open sky as Kongelig sommerballet goes on tour for the 19th time.
"Danish summer, I love you, though you have so often betrayed me," as the poet Thøger Larsen so beautifully wrote in 1923 in his tribute to the capricious Danish summer weather. And those are words and feelings we can relate to. When we pack our leotards and head out into the country with Kongelig sommerballet, we never quite know what the tour will bring; we have enjoyed days of bright sunshine and equally high spirits, and we have fought our way through days of pouring rain and
biting wind. But wherever we have danced, we have each time been met by an enthusiastic audience who are just as keen to meet us as we are to meet them. It is so wonderful and enriching to get to know both new spectators and old acquaintances, and when the weather behaves, it is almost impossible to
imagine anything more fantastic than being allowed to dance in the beautiful Danish summer countryside.
This year's summer ballet visits 11 selected places in Denmark, including two entirely new destinations on the map, namely Stege and Vrå. Last year the weather gods did not agree that we should dance in Skørping, Silkeborg and Hellerup, so we hope they are kinder to us this year. Hopefully we will also have a reunion at Ofelia Plads in Copenhagen, in Nyborg, Augustenborg, Vemb, Randers and Fredensborg.
This year's programme is made up of nine different works, which together show the versatility of ballet, and which in terms of time stretch all the way back to 1841 and up to a moment ago - from some of August Bournonville's most famous divertissements taken from Kermessen i Brügge, La Ventana and Et folkesagn, via two of ballet history's greatest classics, Swan Lake and Giselle, to show dance to Sinatra music and brand-new works created by three of our own dancers.
In the coming season there is a wealth of ballets - old and new - to experience in the repertoire at Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen, and we hope that
today's programme can make you want to see even more. Thank you for letting us drop by, enjoy yourselves, and we look forward to seeing you again on our toes.
