Vendsyssel Festival was founded in 1970 by a circle of organists and tourism people from the western part of Vendsyssel. They thought it would be a good idea to coordinate all the PR for the concerts that were already taking place in the region. Within a few years the whole of Vendsyssel joined in, and the festival grew to become Scandinavia's largest combined classical music event.
About 60 concerts are held each year at over 40 different concert venues in the region. Of these concerts, 10-12 are organised each year by the festival's elected management (called the Board). The remaining approx. 50 concerts are organised by a number of organists, parish councils and other individuals in the region.
The festival's board coordinates all concerts and is responsible for producing brochures, posters and programme tickets as well as the general PR for the festival, and also organises ticket sales, sales of festival passes etc. for all concerts.
