Næstveds søjler 2024 offers a lovely reunion with, among other things, the very popular knights' tournament, where at least 6 horses, as many knights and squires – all in medieval clothing and armour from the 12th-13th centuries – compete to win the honour of being the most victorious knight. It takes place over 4 tournaments spread across Saturday 15 June and Sunday 16 June. But besides a lot of reunions with musicians, jesters and storytellers (see the large programme), there is big and exciting news at this year's festival: And the biggest is probably that we are being visited by the Czech falconry group Falconia, who come to show their falcon show on the tournament ground with 6 falcons, dogs and horses - on both Saturday and Sunday. And in Sct. Peders kirke Næstved Museumsforening has put together an exciting little exhibition, which shows what it was like when (from the 12th century) Næstved had no fewer than 5 monastic orders. And in the same church there is a very exciting concert on the afternoon of 15 June with the international German recorder quartet Flautando Köln. The music is perhaps from right on the border of the medieval and the Renaissance, but surely that will be fine? In Boderne we present – perhaps mostly for children, young people and other good folk, age no obstacle – a medieval makerspace. It is our local makerspace group that is in charge of the workshop - it will be exciting to see what can be made of medieval things via a 21st-century project.
