Welcome to Bornholms Musikfestival 2024. The festival takes place between 18 July and 19 August and offers ten exciting concerts, ranging from music from the Renaissance to brand-new compositions. There are larger and smaller ensembles on the programme, all made up of outstanding musicians who will give listeners memorable experiences: An exciting quartet with Maria Steinaa (flute) and Eva Steinaa (oboe), Petya Hristova (piano) and Henrik Dam Thomsen (cello) opens the season with well-known and lesser-known works. The Steinaa sisters and Petya Hristova have played numerous memorable concerts on Bornholm, and it will be exciting to hear the new combination with Henrik Dam Thomsen. Two composer concerts follow, namely a repeat-listening concert with Anders Nordentoft's music played by Fejøensemblet with Kristoffer Hyldig (piano), Bogdan Božović (violin) and Cansin Cara (cello); and then with music by Composer of the Year Josefine Opsahl played by Toke Hansenius (violin), Lasse Toft Jensen (piano), Max Becker (clarinet) and Lavinia Scarpelli (cello). After that we have two young ensembles led by Tim Frederiksen, professor at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium: Trio Fantasma and Kvartett Sonstenuto. They will also hold open rehearsals under the direction of Professor Tim Frederiksen. Then Mira Kvartetten plays, who have previously shone at Bornholms Musikfestival and will soon celebrate their 25th anniversary. They are Signe Madsen (violin), Birgitte Bærentzen Pihl (violin), Anna Dahl (viola) and newest member Maria Isabel Edlund (cello). An unusual concert of classical and more recent songs follows with the big names Anne Sofie von Otter (voice) and Bengt Forsberg (piano) with Fabian Frederikssson (guitar). Two trio concerts follow, first with Trio Pro Tempore with Henrik Bo Hansen (piano), Carl Julius Lefebvre (oboe) and Lasse Mauritzen (horn) – Trio Pro Tempore always delivers a surprising and exciting repertoire – and a trio with the outstanding younger virtuosos Jonas Frølund (clarinet), Jonathan Swensen (cello) and Elias Holm (piano). Finally Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen round off the season with a bang of a big baroque concert with music by Handel, Roman and Geminiani. Tickets can be bought at billetten.dk from 10 April and at the door before the concerts. Detailed information about the programme will follow soon. With best wishes for a good festival summer
