Festival postponed to May 2022
As we have previously told you, due to the corona situation we have had to postpone the festival once again. The festival was originally planned for March 2020, but had to be cancelled at the last moment when the government introduced the extensive restrictions. Believing that the corona situation would be under control during 2020, we postponed the festival to March 2021. This has, as everyone knows, not been sufficient.
We have therefore decided to move the festival to 20 to 29 May 2022.
At the moment we are working on making new agreements with the engaged artists, and we will try to carry out the whole programme that we originally planned. And everyone naturally hopes that Covid-19 will not cause problems this time in 2022.
Viborg Internationale Kirkemusikfestival is supported by the churches of Viborg, the deaneries, Viborg Kommune and a large number of foundations. Everyone is expected to continue supporting the festival and to ensure that it can be carried out.
Welcome to the festival in 2021
Friday 5 March – Sunday 14 March
With 12 concerts and two music services we can welcome you to Viborg Internationale Kirkemusikfestival 2021. With few exceptions, the large programme that we had to cancel in March 2020 is presented here. For fortunately all the engaged artists have proved very flexible and said yes to appearing one year later than originally planned.
It is still the six town churches in Viborg that stand behind the festival through the organists' collaboration in the association ”Kirkekoncerter i Viborg”. At the concerts the churches involved will make sure that current corona rules are observed, so that everyone can feel safe. But it also means that there may be fewer people at the concerts. So it is a good idea to buy a ticket in advance if you want to secure some of the festival's concert experiences.
The festival's concerts are once again this year at a high artistic level and contain a wide stylistic span – from Venetian, polyphonic choral music from the 1500s through jazz music to newly written folk music.
