Engelsholm Slot

7182 Bredsten

Engelsholm Slot is a manor house midway between Vejle and Billund. The estate's first known owner is the Privy Councillor Timme Nielsen Rosenkrantz of Stensballegård. In 1452 he acquired the estate in an exchange with the Crown. The estate lies in Nørup parish, Tørrild Herred, Vejle Municipality. The main building was erected in 1592-1600 by Hercules von Oberberg, rebuilt in 1732 by Nic. H. Rieman, converted into a folk high school by K. Kristensen in 1940 and restored by Malling Petersen after a fire in 1952. Today only 6 hectares of park and 4 hectares of meadow belong to Engelsholm. The Renaissance castle Engelsholm is beautifully situated on the shore of Engelsholm Sø, surrounded by forest and park. The castle was built by Knud Brahe - Tycho Brahe's brother - in 1592.
